Charlotte is So-Cal
What would a trip to the Golden state be without a stop at the Beach? We made our way to San Diego via the scenic coastal highway, enjoying its stunning ocean views as we wound our way south. The journey revolved around two things- Charlotte's nap, and what we were having for lunch. Conveniently, Charlotte woke up as we approached Oceanside, which just happened to be the only town in the vicinity with a Chik-fil-a; sometimes everything just falls into place so perfectly. It was magical.
Since we were already there Oceanside beach was our pick for an afternoon of sea and sand.
Not sure what to make of the sand
Charlotte likes to have clean hands. If she's having lunch and gets food on her fingers, she'll stop everything and won't resume eating until she's satisfied that her hands have been wiped clean. That said, she didn't know what to make of the sand at first. She growled in frustration as she tried to get the stuff off her hands and there was some foot stamping when she wasn't having any luck. It didn't take her long though to just get stuck in and worry about cleaning up later.
Tantrum avoided
The water was perfect and we had fun splashing with Charlotte. It didn't take her any time at all to warm up to the sea, she loved it immediately. The sand was beautiful- it was scattered with golden specks that looked like glitter sparkling in the sun.
I think it's fair to say we were the most covered up people on the beach. I forgot the bottom half of my costume so it was cotton running shorts for me.
Charlotte wasn't sure what to make of the sensation as the waves washed back out, taking the sand from beneath her feet with them. It made for a little trouble balancing.
Mummy to the rescue
It's a year since we've been to a beach and Charlotte is such a different kid now. The eating sand phase is officially behind her, but so is the sleeping and being quiet in the car- if only we could break every long car journey with some beach time.

You are one hot mamma! Bet you fit right in with all the 'California Girls'...x
